DOMINICAN ROSARY APOSTOLATE

The Glorious Mysteries (Lk/Acts and Rv)

New American Bible (NAB Revised Edition)

The First Glorious Mystery: The Resurrection (Lk 24:1-12)

[A]t daybreak on the first day of the week, [Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary, the mother of James], took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb; 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were puzzling over this, behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them. They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground. They said to them, “Why do you seek the living one among the dead?  6 He is not here, but he has been raised. Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day.”  8 And they remembered his words. Then they returned from the tomb and announced all these things to the eleven and to all the others. 10 [T]he others who accompanied them also told this to the apostles, 11 but their story seemed like nonsense and they did not believe them. 12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb, bent down, and saw the burial cloths alone; then he went home, amazed at what had happened.

The Second Glorious Mystery: The Ascension (Lk 24:50-53 / Acts 1:9-11)

50 Then [Jesus] led [the apostles] [out] as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. 51 As he blessed them, he parted from them and was taken up to heaven. 52 They did him homage and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and they were continually in the temple praising God. (Lk)

9 When [Jesus] had said this, as [the apostles] were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. 10 While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. 11 They said, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.” (Acts)

The Third Glorious Mystery: The Descent of the Holy Spirit (Lk 1:13-14, 2:1-4)

13 When they entered the city, they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 They all devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers (Lk 1:13-14).

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. 2 And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. 3 Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim (Acts 2:1-4).

The Fourth Glorious Mystery: The Assumption (Lk 1:46-49)

46 And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; 47 my spirit rejoices in God my savior. 48 For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. 49 The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.”

The Fifth Glorious Mystery: The Coronation (Rv 12:1)

1 A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.
